Take the equation:

3(x + 2) = 2(x + 7)

Expand both brackets:

3x + 6 = 2x + 14

Subtract 2x from both sides:

x + 6 = 14

Then subtract 6:

x = 8

Where mistakes happen

The most common error is failing to multiply every term inside a bracket. Another is trying to move terms before simplifying the brackets.

Quick check: put x = 8 back into the original equation. Both sides become 30.
