USB-C Power Delivery is a charging and power-negotiation standard carried over compatible USB-C connections. It allows devices and chargers to agree on supported voltage and current levels rather than relying on one fixed output.
The USB-C connector does not guarantee Power Delivery
A USB-C port can support data, charging, video or combinations of those functions. Two ports with the same shape may have different capabilities. Check the device documentation.
The charger does not simply push its maximum wattage
Compatible USB Power Delivery devices negotiate a supported power profile. A 100-watt charger can safely power a phone that only requests a lower level, assuming the charger and cable follow the standard.
The device sets the useful ceiling. Buying a much larger charger does not make a device charge faster if the device does not support the higher profile.
Cables can limit the connection
Not every USB-C cable supports the same current, data speed or video features. Higher-power charging may require an electronically marked cable. Use a cable rated for the intended power and data function.
Multi-port chargers share a power budget
A charger might offer its maximum output only when one port is used. Connecting a second device can redistribute the total budget. Manufacturer diagrams usually show the combinations.
Laptop charging adds practical considerations
A laptop may accept lower power but charge slowly or lose battery under heavy load. For reliable desk use, compare the charger output with the original adapter rating and manufacturer recommendations.

Treat USB-C as the plug shape and Power Delivery as one possible protocol behind it. Check the device, charger and cable together.
